I was recently asked what to do if a student doesn’t want to draw.
In that case, I replied, make a copy of a picture and have the student color a coloring page.
There are times when drawing a picture doesn’t make sense because of time or the difficulty of the lesson. In that case, I make a copy of a picture from the lesson or find a coloring page online.
The point of notebooking is to create a visual narration of the day’s lesson. In my opinion, the narration includes the composition, picture to accompany the lesson, and an additional graph, map, poem, etc., that provides additional detail.
Allow your student to decide how they want to express the day’s lesson in their notebook visually.

This is helpful. My kids are quite young and still learning how to draw. What notebooks do you use? (You have probable mentioned this elsewhere).
Yes, your tips do help. We have used notebooking before and took a break this year to try something different with our co-op. But my children and I are ready to get back to notebooking for history and science again.
