Three Question Framework for Children
Dear Mama,
For a long time, I have been seeking a straightforward way to impart my biblical values through biblical concepts. It was overwhelming for me because I could pick three words. I used a variety of words that were effective but inconsistent.
Over time with prayer and reading, I narrowed my words down to three: Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
These three words kept popping up everywhere, and they became ingrained in me. As a result, I started using them more. I now use them as a framework for what glorifies God.
So whenever my daughter asks me a tricky question about culture, I have her reflect on three questions:
1. Is it true? Is the subject you are talking about based on Biblical truth, or is it based on feelings?
2. Is it Good? As Christians, our understanding of what is good is rooted in the Bible, not in culture. What is good in culture changes frequently, leaving people lost and in the dark.
3. Is it beautiful? Again, is what we are talking about inspired by what God, not man, deems as beautiful?
Another way to confront a topic is to ask the opposite of these questions. Is it false, harmful, or grotesque?
If it celebrates what is true, good, and beautiful, then it is likely to glorify God. And that is what we are trying to teach our children.
What framework do you use to teach your children how to glorify God?
Warmly,
Mirley
