The book that got me to love history
Dear Mama,
Years ago, when my mom used to take us to the library to check out books for the summer, I checked out Pocahontas by Ingri d'Aulaire and Edgar Parin d'Aulaire. This book was a great deal of fun to read. The pictures were beautiful, and I related to Pocahontas's wild and free spirit.
Although I later found out that John Smith had likely fabricated this tale, it still sparked my interest in history. I must have read that book two or three times, and it was the book that sparked my interest in learning history.
Charlotte Mason emphasizes the importance of living books because they bring any subject to life and spark children's interest in subjects more than dry facts. They invite children to want to learn more about the subjects they are studying.
I’m really excited to see what books make a difference in my children’s lives.
Warmly,
Mirley
