The Atmosphere of Our Home
How I use ambience, homemade bread, and uplifting words to cultivate love
Dear Mama,
The atmosphere of a home is more important than one thinks. The atmosphere either invites people or keeps people out.
In my life, my grandparents are an example of cultivating a home with love. They were always so kind, patient, and God fearing. They kept their house clean and simple. You could feel God’s presence in their home.
My grandparents had a calm and loving temperament. That is why I believe the atmosphere of a home begins with the mother’s temperament. Having a quiet and gentle spirit helps maintain calm in the house. I do admit I do not always live up to my own standards, but I do try to stay grounded by exercising, eating healthy, and reading the Bible daily. I’ve even scaled back on social media because it’s so time-consuming.
Besides keeping a calm temper, here are three things I do to cultivate a loving atmosphere.
1. Ambience
I love ambient tracks because they give the home a magical feel. The kids really enjoy the different ambience selections too. You can find many different ambient tracks on YouTube.
2. Homemade Bread
I remember what my grandmother’s home smelled like because it smelled like fresh homemade bread. For that reason, I connect the smell of bread with love and make an effort to bake bread as often as possible.
3. Uplifting Words
Sadly, I do not always do this well, but I do strive to uplift my children every day. I want my words to comfort, encourage, and remind them of their place in God’s kingdom.
This is how I’m cultivating a home for them. I want it to be a place where they can relax, be loved, and love being there.
What would you do to add to a loving atmosphere?
Warmly,
Mirley
