Outdoor School
Dear Mama,
“Never be within doors when you can rightly be without.” - Charlotte Mason
We have a table outside that has become a regular feature for school use. My daughter loves being outdoors for school if the weather is right. In fact, she prefers to be outdoors whenever possible, rather than indoors.
When we do school outside, my daughter feels more relaxed. My two little ones are playing, and school moves along. Although she does take a little longer to finish outside, she is more at ease and willing to do her work.
According to Angela J. Hanscom, author of Balanced and Barefoot, the reason children enjoy outdoor school more is that the fresh air “ignite their senses and help with attention…”
Personally, I know that if I’m inside on a beautiful day, I get headaches; it’s as if my body is craving the outdoors. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to attend outdoor school at least three times a week.
Do you do outdoor school?
Warmly,
Mirley
