Jane Eyre: A Book Review
Dear Mama,
“I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man. I will hold ot the principles received by me when I was sane, and not mad - as I am now. Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation: they are such moments as this when body and soul rise in mutiny against their rigour; stringent are they’ inviolate they shall be. If at my individual convenience I might break them, what would be their worth?” - Jane Eyre
I had not read Jane Eyre until it was assigned by @storiedmotherhood. What a great selection. This book is grounded in Biblical truths, and it goes beyond the love story. The story illustrates what it means to be a woman who possesses “strength and dignity” (Proverbs 31:25).
This is a book that should be read by girls who are coming of age. It shows them how to deal with temptation and stand firm on what is true, good, and beautiful.
The story shows that standing firm on principle will not always be easy, but it will pay off. It is not worth bending the knee to temptation.
I wish I had read this when I was a teenager and learned the valuable lessons that Jane Eyre teaches us.
Have you read Jane Eyre?
Warmly,
Mirley
