Dear Mama.
Did you know that Charlotte Mason’s students used copybooks to copy beautiful quotes from their literature that dealt with morality and virtues? Not only were the students supposed to copy quotes, but they were also required to do so in their best handwriting. In essence, students were practicing their handwriting and instilling good morals and virtues by copying down beautiful prose.
My new copywork notebooks follow the purpose Charlotte Mason intended for her students to use them, utilizing my Simplify, Organize, and Beautify formula.
Simplify: The copywork notebook provides space for students to copy poetry, quotes, lyrics, and other literary works that resonate with their hearts.
Organize: The copywork notebook is organized into a left-hand and right-hand page layout. The left-hand page is for gluing the original script or drawing an illustration of the copywork. The right-hand page is to copy down the passage.
Beautify: All notebook entries should be a sample of their best work. This includes good handwriting, beautiful artwork, and quotes that resonate with the heart.
The elementary notebook is wide-ruled, and the middle notebook is college-ruled. In the end, the Copywork Notebook will become a collection of beautiful quotes for your student to look back on and enjoy.
Do you use copywork notebooks?
