How to Create a System for Your Picture Books
Dear Mama,
“System leads Nature: assists, supplements, rushes in to undertake those very tasks which Nature has made her own since the world was.” - Charlotte M. Mason (Parents and Children, pp. 168-169)
Charlotte is known for not being a fan of systems. But I kind of like them. They help me get things done. I like systems because I get lost and unmotivated when there is too much openness.
This is where Miss Mason and I differ.
Today, I want to share a system I created for organizing my picture books.
1. Organize: Organize your picture books monthly baskets. Add books from your childhood and favorite book lists.
2. Simplify: Picture book baskets are a great way to keep a boundary around your books. Since we cannot read all the books, we should not purchase them all.
3. Beautify: Every month, bring out the collection of books for that month and display them on a display bookshelf. Your kids will get excited to see the “new” collection.
Lastly, find time to read them. I personally love to read these books at night. I love this system because it allows us to reread our family favorites.
