How I Teach Geography
Dear Mama,
“Geography should be learned chiefly from maps, and the child should begin the study by learning ‘the meaning of a map’ and how to use it.”
- Charlotte Mason, Home Education
This year, we are studying Charlotte Mason’s book, Elementary Geography. We are truly enjoying this book. It is a collection of poetry and physical geography lessons. The lessons are short and easy to digest.
We are starting to narrate using my notebook. We put the poem on the left-hand side and the narration on the right-hand side. After the narrations, we go outside to enjoy nature and gain a better understanding of our place in the solar system.
Elementary Geography is opening my children’s eyes to our planet. They are truly curious and have wonderful questions.
How do you teach elementary geography?
Warmly,
Mirley
