Homeschool Organization
Dear Mama,
When I had a classroom, staying organized was pretty easy because I had an entire room dedicated to learning. In that room, I had a place for everything. Now that my classroom is our home, I’ve had to be more creative.
The first homeschool book I read in 2020, when homeschooling was the only option, was Homeschool Bravely by Jamie Erickson. She said in that book that we don’t need a homeschool room to homeschool. We could spread our homeschool throughout the house. This one line took so much pressure off of me because we lived in a wonderful small apartment at the time with no extra room.
We now live in a bigger home that doesn’t have the warmest layout. Nevertheless, I’ve learned to make the best of it. Here is how I organize our homeschool for a 7, 4, & 2 year old.
1. Homeschool Corner: Our homeschool corner is our dining room. There I have a cabinet with baskets inside for each child, myself, curriculum books, manipulatives, and crafts.
In front of our dining table, I have the little kids table where they can play with blocks or color. I also have an easel to write on with chalk.
2. Bookshelf: All of the children’s books are on one bookshelf. They also have some in a basket, I think, in their room. And now I am being extra careful not to impulsively buy books. I don’t have the time to read them all or the space to store them.
3. Kid’s Corner: The kids' corner is where I’m having their artwork displayed, a map, toys, and books.
All in all, if you happen to be stressed out about homeschool space and organization, try out these tips:
1. Spread out homeschool throughout the house.
2. Only buy what you need.
3. Store in baskets.
4. Avoid comparison.
