Dear Mother-Teacher,
I recently made an interesting discovery that keeps my kids on their toes and engaged. That discovery is simple and can be done in any home.
I discovered that changing each learning block to a different part of the house keeps my children interested in the lesson.
Here is how I do it:
Independent Work and Benediction Table are at the dining table first thing in the morning. The children start on their math and language arts while I make breakfast. Then we eat together and do Bible Time.
Once we complete our Benediction table, we take a ten-minute break to brush our teeth, change laundry, and put our things away. After our short 10-minute break, we reunite in the living room.
Our next block is Beauty and Morality. It includes lessons in the arts, Spanish, and character study. Once we complete Beauty and Morality, we take a nature walk around the neighborhood.
When we return from our nature walk, we grab our lesson and notebooks and reunite in the library. Here, we complete the day with a rich lesson in science, geography, or history, depending on the day. If any independent work is left to finish, it will be completed here or in the dining room or living room.
I find this homeschooling format so refreshing. The children love to move around the house, and it seems good for them. Their minds are more active, and taking a break between each block has made a major difference in their attention span. I don’t find them becoming bored and restless anymore.
Do you homeschool around your home?
Yours faithfully,
Mirley

We’re a couple years out from formal lessons but I love this concept. I’d get restless stuck in one spot all day, too!
