DIY Charlotte Mason
Dear Mama,
You don’t need to purchase a complete curriculum to follow the Charlotte Mason method. You can build your own CM curriculum. Here’s how…
Charlotte Mason divided education into three groups. The Knowledge of God, The Knowledge of Man, and the Knowledge of the Universe. Here is what falls under each category.
1. The Knowledge of God: Bible, hymns, prayer, catechism, apologetics, logic & worldview
2. The Knowledge of Man: history, literature, citizenship (morals & economics), composition, language arts, foreign languages, art, and music.
3. Knowledge of the Universe: science, nature study, geography, math, physical education, and handicrafts.
These subjects don’t have to be taught all in the same year; you can rotate them through the week, terms, and years.
A great source to help you create your own CM curriculum is In Vital Harmony by Karen Glass. Although her book has nothing to do with the topic, she does go into each subject, why it’s important to teach, and hopes to approach the subject.
Anyway, I hope this is helpful.
Do you follow a CM curriculum or DIY?
Warmly,
Mirley
