December 2025 Mother Culture
What I'm reading this month
Dear Mama,
I’m so excited to share with you what I’m reading. This month is full of wonderful activities. And yet, I still manage to make time for good books.
Every morning, I wake up and read from Morning and Evening by Charles H. Spurgeon. I am really enjoying this revised and updated edition by Alistair Begg. It’s easy to read and truly so enjoyable if you only have five minutes. Because it is for the morning and evening, you can also read it at night for a second short devotional. When I finish my reading, I journal the highlighted scripture and write down my prayers. There is something about journaling in the morning that helps me relax.
Every December, I read a nonfiction story set at Christmas. This year, I’m reading/listening to Catch Me if You Can by Frank W. Abagnale while I get ready for the day.
My husband and I always enjoyed this movie. Although it’s not a Christmas movie per se, I would say it’s Christmas adjacent because, in the film, Frank and FBI agent Carl Hanratty speak every Christmas. The way I look at it, Catch Me if You Can is a story of redemption because Frank changes his life around.
For my fiction story, I am going to start reading today, The Nutcracker by E.T.A. Hoffman. This story I’m going to read as part of our family read-aloud. Although it is not my personal reading, I believe it still counts because I’ve never read it before.
For my easy reading, I am reading the winter edition of the Learning Well Journal. I love this journal. I read it every Sunday. I love the tips and suggestions from other homeschool mothers.
Lastly, I write down beautiful and inspiring quotes in my commonplace notebook. It is good practice to write down inspiring quotes to read later.
What are you reading this month?
Warmly,
Mirley
