Charlotte Mason Volumes
Dear Mama,
Happy Monday! Today on #charlottemasonmondays we are discussing the Charlotte Mason Volumes. If you follow the Charlotte Mason method, I do believe that it is a good idea to read her volumes. Each volume focuses on something different.
* Volume 1: Home education was written for both parents and teachers of young children ages 9 and under. It focuses on habit training, nature study, and how to teach each subject.
* Volume 2: Parents and Children is a collection of articles that were for the Parent’s Review magazine. This book focuses on gentle discipline, educating children in God’s ways, and character building.
* Volume 3: School Education is on how to educate children from ages 9-12. Here, you will find book suggestions, guidance on conducting exams, and strategies for educating the whole person.
* Volume 4: Ourselves is a collection of two books written for children to teach morals and self-control.
* Volume 5: Formation of Character is for parents of children of all ages. This book uses stories and illustrations to help develop character.
* Volume 6: Philosophy of Education was written shortly before Charlotte Mason’s death, and it’s her overall thoughts about existing after spending a lifetime in the field.
Whether you choose to read them in order or not is up to you. I personally prefer to use a little bit of help from Cindy Rollins in her Patron, who reads the volumes aloud to me. This helps me go a little faster.
Do you prefer to read the volumes in order or out of order?
Warmly,
Mirley
