Charlotte Mason Simplified
Dear Mama,
Charlotte Mason can be simplified into five pillars. Each pillar represents her unique take on classical education.
1. Children are Born Persons
This principle is the first and most important of the other pillars. This pillar emphasizes that humans are not machines, but instead created in the image of God. It is our duty to teach our children diligently while giving them room to explore their gifts and talents.
2. Education is an Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the home encompasses the temperament of the mother, the language used within the house, the books read, the music played, the art displayed, and the cleanliness of the home.
3. Education is a Discipline
Education is a discipline that focuses on training the mind, body, and soul. This includes intellectual habits, moral habits, physical habits, religious habits, & miscellaneous habits.
4. Education is a life
When we learn something, it becomes ingrained in us. We aim to share our findings with others and gain further insights. Learning is never dull; rather, it is always fun.
5. Education is the Science of Relations
All education is connected. We need to show that all knowledge comes from the Creator of knowledge: God. In a Charlotte Mason education, it is understood that the Bible is the foundation for truth.
In summary, this is how I understand the Charlotte Mason method. I hope this helps and encourages you to learn more about her.
Does this help clarify the method for you?
Warmly,
Mirley
