Are you a Charlotte Mason purist or a Charlotte Mason fan?
Dear Mother-Teacher,
I recently spoke to a friend about her take on the Charlotte Mason method. She explained to me that she is more of a fan. I mentioned to her that it seemed to me she had more peace and even freedom in her approach. She said she did. Today, I’m going to explain the difference between the two.
The Charlotte Mason Fan
A Charlotte Mason fan adapts her philosophy to her family but does not feel obligated to follow her method step-by-step. This may even include using some of her suggested books.
The Charlotte Mason Purist
A Charlotte Mason purist is excited to follow her method step-by-step and even uses her suggested books.
Whether you are a Charlotte Mason fan or purist doesn’t matter. What matters is that you do what works best for you and your family.
After this short conversation, I realized that I’m more of a fan. I realized that I don’t need to follow a Charlotte Mason curriculum for my children to get a proper, rich education. I can adapt her principles and suggestions to fit my family more adequately.
So here is how I’m implementing her philosophy in my home:
- Bible
- The Arts
- Morality/Citizenship
- Math
- ELA
- Social Studies
- Science
This short conversation gave me a wonderful vision for next year, and I pray this post does the same for you.
So tell me, friend, are you a fan or a purist?
Yours faithfully,
Mirley
