Apologetics 101
Dear Mama,
Christian Apologetics is the study of the evidence for Christianity. Christianity isn’t just another religion. It is a religion based on Truth and evidence.
We learn the truth by studying the Bible and learning from others who have studied the Bible as a living.
Studying apologetics with your children helps them have conviction in the truth. Sally Clarkson said, “As I have said many times, in the absence of biblical convictions, people will go the way of their culture and cultural voices.” (Awaking Wonder, p. 140)
A great place to start is with Natasha’s Crain books on apologetics for parents. Each book has questions that she has gotten from atheists on her blog, and common questions Christians may have about their faith. She discusses each question thoroughly with facts and logic.
One can read her books for the knowledge or go over the questions with their children. If you do so, I recommend Jr High and up.
Remember, our duty as Christian parents is to teach our children diligently about the Word of God (Deuteronomy 6:7) and pray for them daily. This is not a guarantee that they will follow Christ, but we must nevertheless trust and obey God.
Have you introduced apologetics to your children?
Warmly,
Mirley
