A Mother’s Motto
Dear Mama,
A couple of weeks ago, I listened to a Simply Charlotte Mason podcast where she used Charlotte Mason’s motto “I Am, I Can, I Ought, I Will” on herself. This helped me in a way I didn’t expect.
One of my struggles is a quick temper. I felt comforted when I read Little Women because one of the literary mothers I admire the most, Marmee, also struggled with her temper, and yet she always seemed so calm.
So with that said, here is how I’m using Charlotte Mason’s motto on myself.
- I Am a child of God.
- I Can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- I Ought to do the next right thing in faith with excellence for the glory of God
- Because I love God, I will obey his commandments with a joyful heart. Because I love God, I will trust in Him.
- Because I love my children, I Will be slow to anger, I Will be kind and gentle to them, I will correct them when needed, I Will respect and forgive them.
-Because I love myself, I will think beautiful thoughts, I will eat healthy and exercise, and take care of myself.
Saying this to myself is helping me.
Warmly,
Mirley
