A Mother's Feast
Dear Mama,
“There is no education but self-education.”
― Charlotte Mason
What is self-education? Self-education is when we mothers take the time to learn about our interests and more.
As mother-teachers, we must continue our education so that we can be prepared to answer questions our children may have. It also helps us become excited about a subject and, therefore, motivates our children in the topic.
I personally like to use the following resources to self-educate myself:
1. Books: Books are the best resource to learn about a topic. Many moms here on Instagram share all the excellent books they are reading. You can ask a mom what book she recommends on a specific topic.
2. Podcasts/YouTube: Podcasts and YouTube are an excellent way for me to learn about a specific topic for free! For Charlotte Mason, I enjoy listening to the Simply Charlotte Mason podcast, and on YouTube, I typically watch/listen to Christian apologetics shows.
3. Courses: There really is only one membership course that I recommend for learning about the Charlotte Mason method, and that is the Commonplace House. This membership offers hours of material to help you learn about the Charlotte Mason method and how to apply it in your own home.
4. Experience: As time goes on, you will learn what best works for you. What rhythm and strategies work for you? Time will give you the wisdom needed to run a home and raise your children.
What other methods do you use to self-educate?
Warmly,
Mirley
