2023-2024 Lessons Learned
Dear Mama,
Today is the first day of school, and I am reflecting on the lessons I learned from last year. Each year, I try to document the lessons I've learned so I can build on them the following year.
Here are five lessons I learned from the 2023-2024 school year:
1. Keep it Simple
Last year, we moved from California to Texas and took a trip to Rhode Island for my husband’s class. We drove on this move, and I had to bring only the essentials of our homeschool.
2. Be consistent with one curriculum
Because of the move, I couldn't jump around from curriculum to curriculum and test out what worked for us. I used the curriculum we had and observed significant growth and enjoyment in the process.
3. Switch curriculum early
If you must switch curriculum during the school year, do so at the beginning of the year.
4. There is no perfect curriculum
Knowing that there is no perfect curriculum gives me a great deal of freedom to skip portions and supplement them with something else.
5. Throw out what you don’t need
This is the first year I've thrown out our notebooks without guilt because I created a portfolio that helps me organize all the essential narrations in one small location.
What lessons did you learn last school year?
Warmly,
Mirley
